POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

Under the supervision of the On-Site Project Manager, the Diesel/Industrial Mechanic, operates and maintains the facility emergency generator diesel engines and the support systems, including but not limited to the fuel storage, filtration, transfer and disposal, and oily waste collection and disposal. This includes all operations, load testing, and the necessary preventative and corrective maintenance to the same. As needed, support the On-Site Shift Supervisor / Program Manager with general labor in support of the overall facility maintenance mission.

  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on facilities, equipment, or machinery.
  • Assembles, installs and/or repairs: wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems, physical structures, and fixtures as they relate to stationary diesel engines.
  • Diagnoses problems and determines corrective solutions, referring to and/or adhering to blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassembles equipment.
  • Maintains parts, supplies, and equipment; advising the supervisor and submitting requisitions when parts or supplies need to be ordered.
  • Maintain related records concerning time, labor, and materials; maintain a log of tasks performed and write reports as necessary.
  • Resolve and complete work orders; work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Other tasks as assigned in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Payrate: $37.85 Hourly

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of diesel engine operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to operate the specific tools used in the area of expertise, including related tools and equipment such as common hand and power tools, hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the following systems/equipment:
    • Stationary diesel engines
    • Fuel filtration systems
    • Fuel transfer systems
    • Related alarm systems
